La Tenería

The tannery was originally used to tan skins, hence its name. Later due to the unpleasant smell of that activity, so close to the village, it became a public laundry.

The tannery consists of three laundry stacks where women went to run the laundry, it was active at the beginning of twentieth century but it became too small, and a larger one was built in "Las Aguas" a bit higher, but it was also kept in use.

Laundries have traditionally been meeting places, where women used to exchange news and confidences. In them were born expressions like “washing dirty cloths” in relation to criticizing others or 'there are clothes lying' as a warning that you could not speak in front of a particular person or a child.
